Leading With EQ In Challenging Times

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a crucial part of leadership in the best of times, and is even more important in times of challenge. The events of this past year have underscored the impact that traits such as empathy and resilience can have on the well-being of employees, residents and families. In addition, emotionally-intelligent leaders have been shown to be more effective in hiring, motivating, and retaining staff. In this session, we will explore the principles of Resilient Leadership and how those capabilities are fundamental in leading a staff and a community. Beginning with a brief overview of the key components of Emotional Intelligence, the session will explore how those elements can be incorporated into an effective leadership approach. We will also discuss the impact that the pandemic has had on community life and culture, and the ways in which Resilient Leadership has become fundamental in navigating these challenging times.

Jeffrey Bilson

Jeffrey Bilson is President and owner of Druthers Agency, an Executive Search firm specializing in the placement of Senior Housing professionals. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jeffrey first experienced the long-term care industry through his family ownership of several skilled nursing facilities in California, Nevada and Hawaii. After graduating from the University of California at Davis and serving as an Academic Counselor there, he joined Druthers Agency in 1981 as the Long-Term Care Specialist. Jeffrey assumed the role of Director of Operations for Druthers Agency in 1985, focusing all recruitment efforts in the Senior Services sector, and purchased the organization from its founder in 1987. He has successfully continued operations in this specialized niche since that time, with a specific focus on serving non-profit Life Plan communities. In addition to his own recruitment efforts, Jeffrey has successfully trained other search consultants, both within Druthers Agency as well as through The Odyssey School for Executive Search. He has been invited to speak and to present workshops on hiring practices and career strategies for many industry providers, affiliated organizations and universities, and has published articles on related topics in various industry publications.
